Facebook, passwords et al

I have just spent the last two hours sorting out all the password variations required for facebook and twitter. I have to say I am putting energy into these things to get traffic to my website. It is one of the most frustrating and annoying things about the web, and doesn't seem to stop determined hackers anyway. Facebook is a scary thing though. I had a profile there when it first started up, well it was in that first year anyway, and then read an article (which I haven't been able to find since...umm, I think it was in the Washington Post...)about how sinister facebook actually is, and informed all my friends that I was leaving, with a link to this article. No one seemed to notice. Anyway, when I went to sign up the other day, under my maiden name: Candida van Rood, it knew my birthday. So it is not a few students putting together their yearbook, as it was made out to be in the beginning. And now once they have your data, they have it forever, yes forever...brrrr.
And why then, have I 'sold-out' like this? hmmmm..something to ponder..
